Touring New York City at night with NYSee Tours is exhilarating. Sightseeing after dark in the Big Apple is dynamic and exciting as the city takes on a completely new and exciting demeanor. The tour is a form of theater that unfolds as we move through the ever changing urban landscape. Your guide will use the city as a tool to engage, excite, and educate. It is the way we transmit the enthusiasm and passion that we have for New York City to you, our guests.
Our Night Tour is a two and a half to three hours tour that will allow you will see a side of New York that is not apparent during the day. How did the Great White Way became The Great White Way; why does Times Square draw visitors from around the world; how did 42nd Street became a center for mass entertainment? You’ll eat a slice of fresh, tasty authentic NYC pizza at Stromboli Pizza on the Lower East Side, and then take a stroll along St Marks Place, Three short blocks between Third Avenue and Avenue A. The singer Tom Paxton in “Talking Vietnam Blues”, wrote about a soul “Who smelled like midnight on St. Mark’s Place” The Led Zeppelin album Physical Graffiti depicts the buildings 98 & 96 on the cover. Three short blocks, history and stories. Allegedly Peter Stuyvesant’s ghost haunts St Marks on the Bowery Church, where he is buried.
Afterward, we will head downtown, past Chinatown and Little Italy and over the Manhattan Bridge to Brooklyn. Crossing the bridge is spectacular; to your right will be the necklace of lights tracing the graceful main cables of the Brooklyn Bridge, beyond that, beautiful views of the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor. We’ll look into Dumbo (A residential neighborhood Down Under the Manhattan/Brooklyn bridge Overpass). Once across the bridge we’ll stop at the beautiful and new Fulton Ferry Park to stare across the East River at the views of lower Manhattan lit up like a fantasy as you’ve seen in countless movies. If you like you can stroll along the river or stay with your guide who will explain the history of the Brooklyn Bridge not only as an engineering marvel but the human story of the Roebling Family’s tireless efforts to conceive and build the East River Bridge. The Bridge has inspired generations of poets, artists, writers; you’ll see and feel why.
An excerpt from Crossing Brooklyn Ferry by Walt Whitman in Leaves of Grass(1819-1892):
“…Just as you feel when you look on the river and sky, so I felt; Just as any of you is one of a living crowd, I was one of a crowd; Just as you are refresh’d by the gladness of the river and the bright flow, I was refresh’d; Just as you stand and lean on the rail, yet hurry with the swift current, I stood, yet was hurried; Just as you look on the numberless masts of ships, and the thick-stem’d pipes of steamboats, I look’d..”
The Night Lights and Pizza Tour is fully escorted just like our Get Acquainted Tour and is perfect if you want a shorter tour with fewer stops.
